As it was...
then again it will be.
I've seen a lot of foreclosed "bank owned" homes in today's housing market. I agree... there are some pretty good deals to be had, if you're willing to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty. I am surprised however, by some of the items the previous owners decided to take with them when they vacated... things such as appliances, light fixtures, doors, cabinets, and carpet?! I realize that for those residing in Europe, it's customary to take your cabinets with you when you move, but here in the states?!
The photos below are a good example of a foreclosed home that was purchased with half of its kitchen cabinets missing, or (if your glass is half full) half of its cabinets remaining. The paint line on the wall clearly reveals where the upper cabinets once resided. The lower cabinets were stripped of their face frames and doors, left naked and exposed for all to see, and ultimately, rendering the kitchen useless.
Upon the new owner taking possession of the home, Aardvark Woodcraft was hired to restore the kitchen. We manufactured and installed new upper cabinets. New face frames, doors and drawers were manufactured and installed on the lower cabinets, and we refaced the finished ends and peninsula back to match the rest of the new cabinetry. The old cabinets were red oak... the owner opted to have them replaced with cherry.
